In order to free the palatal vault and therefore provide more space to the tongue, the Regular Hawley is modified to the shape of a horseshoe. However, the appliance thus transformed must be strengthened by adding a reinforcement mean at the back of incisors into the acrylic part and a palatal bar that matches the form of the palate.
